Bikram yoga is one of the better known schools of yoga. It was founded by Bikram Choudhury and came to popularity in the early 1970s. It’s often called “hot yoga” because it is typically done in studios that are heated to 104 degree Fahrenheit. Practitioners of Bikram suggest that the high temperature helps prevent injury by allowing deeper stretching. The Bikram school of yoga focuses on building mental and physical strength, while also improving flexibility and balance.

Many people choose Bikram yoga not only for maintaining health, but as a form of healing physical therapy after injury. There are many documented claims to the ability of yoga to help relieve chronic pain. Basic Bikram yoga starts with 26 different asanas, or postures, which are claimed to improve the flow of oxygenated blood throughout the entire body. It’s said that this helps maintain the organs in a healthy state. The postures also help to stretch the muscles, ligaments and tendons, leading to increased balance and flexibility. It’s also been suggested that it assists with detoxifying the body as it improves circulation.

Like other styles of yoga, Bikram yoga is said to affect the blood circulation through a series of extensions and compressions. As a particular asana is performed, some muscles are stretched while others are compressed. This has the effect of momentarily restricting the blood flow to certain parts of the body. As the blood flow is impeded, the heart begins pumping harder, trying to force blood to the compressed area. As the asana is relaxed and a new position taken, freshly oxygenated blood rushes into the previously constricted area.

Many people wonder why it would be necessary to perform the exercises in a heated room. Bikram yoga was based in part on the older Hatha yoga, which has been shown to assist the body in flushing away toxins and waste product from the organs and glands. The impurities are then carried through the circulatory system, to be eliminated from the body. To assist in the detoxification, Bikram yoga uses a heated yoga studio to increase sweat which helps flush these toxins and impurities out through the skin.

Several scientific studies have been done on the effectiveness of Bikram yoga, including on its effect on reducing bone loss in women and in improving motor skills of young adults. That’s not to say that Bikram yoga doesn’t have its detractors, particularly because of its use of yoga competitions. Some traditional yoga practitioners feel that competition goes against the core yoga values of harmony and unity.

Despite any controversy, Bikram yoga has grown into a huge, multi-million dollar business, with hundreds of thousands of followers world wide. Like other forms of yoga, Bikram yoga also claims to help with emotional health and well-being. By becoming focused on your inner mind through the asanas, you are able to better see how outer event affect you. Awareness lets you choose an appropriate response, and so create a better balance in your emotional health.

Yoga has become a hugely popular form of exercise over the last few years. Many people choose to do yoga because it helps them feel better physically. Doing the different asanas, or poses, helps make their bodies feel healthy. Yoga is also a marvelous way to relax and reduce stress. If you are trying to find a way to get your body healthy and increase your mental well-being, yoga may very well be the exercise you are looking for.

Research in yoga has shown that practitioners are better able to control stress and anxiety. It’s also been shown to help lower blood pressure and help with chronic pain syndrome. Sufferers of other chronic issues such as headache, chronic fatigue, arthritis and asthma have all found relief through yoga. Part of the physical aspect of yoga is its effect on the circulation. The yoga asanas help increase circulation throughout the body. As it does so, it brings more freshly oxygenated blood to the muscles and organs while carrying away toxins in your system for disposal.

The benefits of yoga are many. An hour of yoga in the evening can help eliminate the stress and tension of a day’s work. When you make yoga a regular part of your daily routine, you increase strength, flexibility, muscle tone and stamina. If you’re overweight, yoga not only provides exercise to help burn excess calories, it can help you discover the will power to eat a proper diet.

The time spent doing yoga is relaxing for the mind, as you shut off the inner disruptions and outer interruptions of your life. By learning to focus on the inner mind, you can improve your concentration and memory skills. Learning to recognize the negative thoughts that you carry inside helps you find ways to eliminate them, leaving room for more positive energy.

Each person who does yoga will find different benefits from it. Some people choose to practice yoga for the physical benefits it brings to their health. Others choose yoga because it helps them with their emotional well being. Still others appreciate the spiritual aspect of yoga. It is true that yoga can be spiritually enlightening. Again, by allowing yourself to focus inside, and eliminate the distractions of the outer world, you can more easily connect with your spiritual self.

Because of the spiritual aspects of yoga, there are people who mistakenly believe that it may not fit in with their own religious beliefs. Actually, nothing could be further from the truth. Yoga itself is not a religion, and has no specific beliefs or dogma. But it does help the mind to focus on some core principles like harmony and union which can help strengthen your own spirituality and religious beliefs.

As you find yourself rushing around each day, looking for relief from the physical, mental and spiritual toll that life can take on you, keep yoga in mind. Consider finding some time to spend focusing on you, and leaving the hassles and deadlines behind for an hour or so. You may be surprised at the difference it will make.

Yoga has become a popular form of exercise and meditation across the country. It has its roots in ancient Asian culture, but each year is becoming more popular in the west as a way of improving our bodies and spirits. However, there are many people who are hesitant about the idea of yoga because they have misunderstandings about what it really is. You can enjoy the benefits of yoga by learning more about it and being willing to take the first step.

There is a popular misconception that yoga is a religious belief, and that doing yoga will require you to abandon your current religion. Some even see yoga as some sort of cult-like hippie religion, where the followers shave their heads and stand around chanting all day! The truth is actually something much less threatening. Yoga is a simple series of exercises that helps you relax and heal your body and mind. In many parts of the world, yoga is commonly practiced by young and old alike. There is absolutely no truth to the idea that yoga promotes a specific religious belief, or insists that you abandon yours. Yoga has no dogma and isn’t a religion.

However, even though yoga isn’t a religion, it can fit nicely into your current religious beliefs. It doesn’t matter which religion you practice, yoga doesn’t require that you renounce your faith or replace it with other beliefs. Nothing offered in yoga is contradictory or competitive to the beliefs you already hold.

Now that we’ve determined what yoga is not, let’s talk a bit about what it is. It really is nothing more than a way to harness your inner focus, and use it to strengthen the body and mind. The word yoga comes from the ancient Sanskrit language, and translated means “to direct the attention”. So through yoga, we are focusing our attention on ourselves, and reaching into an inner source of happiness. We learn to see ourselves as just one small part of a giant universe. The goal is to unite with this large entity, to become one with something that is bigger than us. It’s through this union that we feel complete and learn to live in true happiness.

Through yoga, we achieve many benefits, both physical and mental, of the body and the mind. A great deal of this is due to a better ability to deal with tension and stress. As you learn yoga, you’ll find that you will have lower levels of anxiety, improved mood, and more energy. This allows you to focus on your spirituality and faith and helps you to achieve balance and happiness in your life.

Many people use yoga in their daily routine as a means of increasing their physical strength and flexibility, increasing endurance and reducing stress. Yoga uses a series of body poses and breathing exercises that have been proven to be a very effective way of reducing stress. For those who suffer from ailments which can be worsened by stress such as asthma or chronic pain, yoga and meditation can be a valuable tool for reducing their effects.

The practice of yoga focuses on the connection between the body and the mind, and the goal is to create harmony in the physical and mental aspects of your life. This harmony comes about through postures (called asanas), proper breathing technique (pranayama), and meditation. Each of these three principles is equally important in achieving real benefits from your yoga exercises.

We all know that stress causes a multitude of health problems. As you use yoga techniques to reduce stress, you will start seeing real physical benefits, including lower blood pressure, improved cardiovascular efficiency and less gastrointestinal upset. You’ll also see improvements in your dexterity and better balance. This can be a huge benefit for athletes looking to improve their game.

But the physical improvements aren’t the only benefits. You’ll also find that the reduced stress you will have from practicing yoga will help lower you anxiety level. You will have an improved sense of well-being and less depression. What’s more, you’ll have more energy and focus, allowing you to achieve more balance and happiness in your life.

Many people find that when they start practicing yoga, they change their way of thinking about their body. Since the goal of yoga is to help focus the attention on yourself, you will become more aware of the things going on in your body and in your mind. You’ll take notice of any negativity and be able to recognize it for what it is. As your awareness of negative thoughts increases, those thought will actually begin to disappear. Bringing them to the light, so to speak, helps you break the unconscious cycle of feeding those negative thoughts.

By reducing your internal negativity, you’ll be better equipped to reduce external negative habits, like overeating and smoking which lead to poor health and unhappiness. By using yoga techniques to focus on your inner negative processes, you can eliminate the triggers behind these bad habits. This is in no means meant to imply that yoga is an easy way to lose weight or stop smoking. It simply means that as you practice yoga, you’ll start feeling better inside and will naturally begin to behave in ways that help to further this feeling.

Yoga works a bit like a flashlight in the dark, by showing you the dirty corners and hidden negativity of your mind. While it doesn’t clean these things out for you, it does help to make things clearer, allowing you to more easily break bad habits that are preventing you from being as healthy as you could be.

While the physical benefits of yoga, such as increased flexibility and strength, are widely recognised, the emotional benefits are less recognized. However, the benefits to the mind and well being of the practitioner are at the core of the most important aspects of yoga. Through the use of yoga, you can rid yourself of negative feelings like hostility and resentment so you can open up to self acceptance and a healthier emotional state.

Many people consider this the most important benefit of practicing yoga. Through yoga techniques, they achieve a state of mental calmness which allows them to function better in their life. With less stress, yoga practitioners feel less anxiety and have a generally improved sense of well-being. The inner focus of yoga helps regulate breathing and blood flow, further reducing stress and anxiety.

Practicing yoga teaches us much about control. As we learn to focus on our inner thoughts, we learn to accept ourselves. Self acceptance leads to more self control, as we become more in tune with what makes our bodies feel good and function well. The inner focus allows us to see the negativity we all carry inside ourselves and opens up the opportunity to make changes in our behavior that can bring us greater tranquility.

If you have problems in your life that create stress and tension, you may feel that there is no escape. Money worries, family worries – this stress can be so strong that it leads to physical health problems. But through the use of yoga, you learn to release your tension and negative thoughts. You will improve your outlook on life, bringing more positivity into everything you do. The inner focus required of yoga will allow you to bring about positive changes in your life.

Another very important benefit of yoga is its use in pain management. Again, it all goes back to the inner focus and concentration. The combination of meditation, yoga breathing techniques and relaxation has had a proven track record of bringing relief to those who suffer from chronic pain. Yoga allows you to distract your mind from any aches and pains. Doing so reduces the tension caused from chronic pain and helps you move past the pain.

Does this mean that yoga is a “miracle cure” for all these emotional ails? Of course it doesn’t. What yoga does is help you quiet the constant chattering of your brain, and focus on not thinking. When you learn to do this, you can look inside yourself ñ the inner focus ñ and you will have the ability to see problems more clearly. When you recognize the negative energies, it becomes possible to deal with them in a healthy manner. Itís through the self-awareness that yoga enables you to create positive changes in your life.
